HealthyHeart

WHY I DO THIS

Anyone can do something great and make an impact on someone's life. In some cases, individuals need assistance to realize they can do great things. I stand ready and willing to provide assistance while I attempt to do great things myself.

Fitness: Maintaining a HealthyHeart requires that I not only practice the art of giving, but I must lead by example when it comes to fitness, too. I try to maintain my fitness because it makes me a better, stronger, more efficient, and a more effective person. Planning, training, nutrition, sleep management, budgeting, dealing with adversity or injuries, making adjustments, and mental toughness-these are just a few areas where fitness makes you a better person. Leadership also requires you to live your life like someone is always watching you. Chances are, someone is.

Giving: On a daily basis, I am honored to be around fellow warriors that are nobly willing to give their lives so that others may live. My military career began at the U. S. Naval Academy, whose mission is the following: "To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to provide graduates who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government." I learned the Laws of the Navy, of which the 5th Law is, "On the strength of one link in the cable, Dependeth the might of the chain. Who knows when thou may'st be tested? So live that thou bearest the strain!" Lastly, I learned the articles of the code of conduct. Article 1 states, "I am an American, fighting in the armed forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." These statements help form my beliefs not only as an Officer of Marines, but also as a citizen. They all involve giving--to assume the highest responsibilities of citizenship, you must give; to maintain the strength of the cable, you must give; and to guard our way of life, you must give. These are very powerful statements whose significance transcends their military relevance. If we selflessly give, we all benefit.
