WHY I DO THIS

Back in 2000, a stranger challenged me to run a marathon. At the time, there were at least 26.2 reasons not to accept the challenge. In fact, I didn't really look at it as much of a challenge, because I already knew the answer was a resounding 'no!'. Why would anybody put themselves through the misery, and the aches and pains that were sure to follow!

Well, it didn't take long for me to realize that running a marathon isn't necessarily about competing or achieving a physical goal. Those are only the tangible end results of a more meaningful journey. It's more about a state of mind - a personal decision to change, and to grow. And to ultimately share that experience with others.

That stranger I met in 2000 wasn't a runner. She wasn't particularly athletic. She was a mother, whose daughter was in need of a liver transplant. She was recruiting marathon runners to raise awareness and money for her cause. And I was more than happy to eventually accept that challenge.

It is with an unyielding spirit and desire to inspire others that rests at the foundation of my decision to be a part of the HealthyHeart Foundation. Our goal of promoting well being through fitness of the mind, body, and spirit isn't necessarily about a physical goal - for instance, a stranger's challenge of running 26.2 miles! It's about touching and motivating others to see beyond any potential limitations and make a truly meaningful difference in their lives and the lives of those around them. HHF is truly a unique charitable organization that we are very proud of. It's my hope that we are able to inspire those around us to achieve their fullest potential!!
