WHY I DO THIS

I'm always up for good ideas. And, for as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed giving back (or more aptly paying forward) to causes that have either helped me in the past or that I have a current interest in. So in several ways, serving on the Board of HealthyHeart Foundation (HHF) was perfect for me - it involves giving, physical fitness & sportsmanship and is creative and socially interactive with other board members that are diverse with highly developed careers, fitness activities, philanthropy and social lives.

Best of all, the HHF is hands on. Our creative ideas for giving are generally administered directly allowing for instant and clear feedback as to the effectiveness of our ideas and actions.

Fitness: Throughout my life I've been active in sports activities and fitness. Even better, my activity has seemed to increase with age! From team sports and weightlifting in school, to early adult activities of surfing, skiing, tennis and golf, I've graduated to endurance sports in the last 5-10 years including 7 marathons (Boston twice), a handful of Olympic distance triathlons, 10+/- half marathons and numerous "fun" events (Hood to Coast, Muddy Buddy, Tour de Poway, etc.). These events have brought me great health and enjoyment. It only seems fair to share my experience with those showing a budding interest in sports, fitness and health.

Giving: Prior to my involvement in HHF, I have participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, Big Brothers of America and as a coach in youth sports (Little League and Middle School Roller Hockey Leagues).

WORDS I LIVE BY

"What really matters has little to do with personal success, status, material acquisitions and the like, and much more to do with how we connect to and what we offer to those traveling through life around us."

PERSONAL

Two sons, in their school years, have kept me busy in Little League, youth hockey, Pop Warner Football, boating, hiking, camping and Indian Guides. While not out having fun, I am self-employed in commercial real estate.
